The Barnardos Real love Rocks campaign have released some new resources to help teachers and professionals be more inclusive of LGBTQ identities when giving SRE lessons. About the resource, Barnardos say:
“Often same sex relationships and transgender people are completely invisible in SRE and Healthy Relationships resources. The failure to discuss different families, gender identity and sexual orientation can have a negative impact on children and young people, increasing the feelings of isolation, lack of acceptance and bullying.
“We know that these issues may encourage young people to seek support via adult spaces and put them at risk of CSE. Teachers often feel confused about what they can and can’t teach and tell us that they are often dealing with homophobic bullying and really need support in tackling these issues in an age appropriate way”.
